Sean Cummings

Before Hurricane Katrina, Sean Cummings was well known in New Orleans as the visionary entrepreneur, developer and native son who had brilliantly introduced contemporary design to a city prized for its distinctly traditional architecture. Since the storm, Cummings’ energy, ideas and philosophy are leading the way in rebuilding the city – physically and philosophically.

The name of his real estate development company, Ekistics, Inc., suggests something about Cummings and his passion. Ekistics is an ancient Greek word meaning “of settlements” or, according to Cummings, “the study of where and why people live where they do in an urban setting.” For this developer, understanding the where and why of urban life is not just his interest -- it’s his way of life – and he combines a contagious entrepreneurial spirit with an abiding social conscience.
